The criteria for gaining each award level focuses on specific aspects of caring for the environment across key areas of church life. These are: worship and teaching; management of church buildings and land; community and global engagement; lifestyle.<\/p>\n<p>Eco Church is an \u2018A Rocha\u2019 project and this award scheme is open to churches across England and Wales. It celebrates actions being taken by churches to care for the environment.<\/p>\n<p>Various actions have been taken by St John\u2019s in support of wildlife and the environment. The church has switched to 100% renewable sources of electricity (53% wind, 24% solar, 19% biogen and 4% hydro).<\/p>\n<p>In addition, ensuring the church garden is not only a peaceful place for people to enjoy but also a haven for wildlife is an on-going target. Find out more in the <a href=\"https:\/\/stjohnsburystedmunds.co.uk\/index.php\/eco-church\/garden\/\">garden<\/a> section of this site.<\/p>\n<p>An extremely valuable and interesting project has been the creation of swift boxes in the church\u2019s tower. These provide invaluable nesting places for these wonderful birds, which are sadly in decline.
