Rt Revd James Russell Woodford (1820–85) was Bishop of Ely from 1873 until his death. He was very active in the work of church restoration, and reconstructed the cathedral school at Ely. In 1876 he founded Ely Theological College, which trained priests in the Anglo-Catholic tradition.
