It is recorded that a prayer desk is inscribed: ‘John Arthur Newson, former assistant priest, who died in Normandy trying to save others’ and dated 1944. Newson was serving as an army chaplain attached to the 5th Royal Inniskilling Dragoon Guards, and died attempting to save others while swimming. This may be a reference to the desk at present before the memorial corner but, if so, the inscription is not visible.  Alternatively, the desk itself may have been lost.
