The traditional simple definition of a sacrament is that it is ‘an outward and visible sign of an inward and spiritual grace’. It is a Church ceremony which confers some blessing or grace upon those who receive it, a visible symbol of the reality of God in our lives.
The two premier sacraments, which are associated with Jesus himself in the New Testament, are Baptism and the Eucharist.
The other sacraments are: Confirmation, Reconciliation (or Confession and Absolution), Anointing for Healing, Marriage and Holy Orders.
